Conference Locations

San Antonio has been chosen as the location for the Digital Libraries 2000 conference. San Antonio is one of the most historic cities in the southwestern region of the United States, as well as one of its most popular tourist destinations. The city boasts a very rich cultural heritage, managing to successfully blend a range of diverse cultures in a way that is uniquely San Antonio.

A wide variety of attractions await the visitor in San Antonio. Those interested in exploring the history of the city can begin with a visit to one of its five Spanish missions, the best known of which is the Alamo. A visit to the Institute of Texan Cultures provides a unique look into the cultures that shaped and influenced the development of this city and the state in which it resides. Visitors searching for thrills and excitement can spend the day at one of San Antonio's internationally known theme parks which include both Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

All visitors to the city should be sure not to miss the experience of the San Antonio riverwalk. This picturesque pedestrian zone lines the San Antonio river as it meanders through the heart of the city. It is lined with a variety of shops, restaurants, and pubs, and is within easy walking distance of many of the downtown hotels.

San Antonio's geographic location, in the central region of Texas, makes it an ideal launching point for a range of different excursions into the surrounding area. The beautiful Texas hill country lies just to the north of San Antonio. The Texas coastline and Mexico are also both within driving distance of the city. Additionally, the weather in the San Antonio area during the months of May and June is typically mild and pleasant offering a nice escape for visitors from colder climates.

San Antonio will make an excellent venue for Digital Libraries 2000, and offers many exciting opportunities to supplement the typical conference going experience.
